Canine Vita Plaque Defence declares iodine at 1,450mg/kg. This is the concentration in the powder, not the quantity in one serving and not a statement of a dog’s dietary requirement.

What does mg/kg mean?

Milligrams per kilogram expresses concentration. At 1,450mg/kg, each gram of powder contains approximately 1.45mg of iodine based on the declared concentration. An estimated 0.625g serving would therefore contain about 0.91mg; 1.25g about 1.81mg; and 2.5g about 3.63mg. These are mathematical estimates, not feeding recommendations or guarantees of the exact amount in an individual spoon.

Why the whole diet matters

Dogs may receive iodine from complete food, treats and other supplements. A single ingredient number cannot determine whether a total diet is appropriate. Do not combine supplements casually, and show your vet the complete label when asking for advice.

When should I ask my vet?

Seek veterinary advice before using this product if your dog has a thyroid condition, is pregnant or nursing, or is receiving veterinary treatment. Your vet can consider the dog’s health, medicines and whole diet. Do not use the product for puppies under 12 weeks.
